During my internship at the venue Club Bahnhof Ehrenfeld in cologne, we organised a Gil Scott-Heron Tribute. This included 3 days of practise for the artists and also a panel, which was part of the annual event c/o pop (Festival in Cologne). As a special guest we invited Bernard ‘Pretty’ Purdie, one of the greatest Soul, R&B, Funk and pop drummers of our time.

A Tribute to Gil Scott-Heron honors this man’s great support of the Black Power movement and his immeasurable contribution to African American music and literature.

Scott-Heron’s influence can also strongly be felt in the German music scene. Therefore, it was one of the goals to present a ‘German’ perspective on his work. The Ruffcats from Berlin acted as the night’s backing band. Further artist for this show were: Oddisee, Flo Mega, Peter Hadar, Akua Naru, Paco Mendoza and Nelly & Nora.

For weeks we wrote press releases, came up with innovative PR ideas, tried to get all artist on board, even though we had a very restricted budget. We also organised the panel and prepared the venue. But in the end all the hard work payed off and the day was a great success.
